Baptist Church Aalsmeer

Baptist Church

The Baptist Church in Aalsmeer is "a sustainable place where the story of God rings out and is explained, and where people can share their own story and their faith with each other." The members of this church call themselves a group of people who are travelling on the road together.

Part of the Baptist Municipality of Aalsmeer

People in this congregation feel connected to their neighbours, near and far, and try to walk the path of peace. They are consciously part of the Baptist tradition and pass on what has given meaning to their lives for generations to come. Traditions such as the witness of peace, adult baptism, confession and ‘actions speak louder than words.’ A popular Baptist saying is ‘freedom from bondage’. This means that being human only comes into its own in a community. And that people believe ‘in a freedom that at the same time includes responsibility for others and creation’.

The Baptist Church in Aalsmeer is a provincial monument

The Baptist Church in Aalsmeer is 19.5 metres tall, built in 1927 and originally had 600 seats. The Baptist Community of Aalsmeer consists of a complex containing the former verger’s house and two other houses. The province of North Holland regards the entire complex as a rare and authentic example of church building in J.F. Staal’s oeuvre. This was one of the main reasons for including it on the provincial monument list in 1987. The church hall of the Baptist Church in Aalsmeer was repainted in the original colours in the same year. J.F. Staal also designed the Central Aalsmeer Auction.
